Mrs. Bonner died Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph's Infirmary in Fort Smith, Ark., after a long illness. Mrs. Ora E. Pierce, 78, died at the New Castle Sanitarium early Monday morning of the infirmities of old age. A native of Trimble County, she was the widow of Charles T. Pierce, who died in 1915. For the past eight years she had madeher home with her sister, Mrs. Lillian Monroe, LaGrange. She was a member of the Bedford Methodist Church. Besides her sister she is survived by a number of nephews and nieces. The body will be prepared for burial at the Radcliffe Funeral Home and funeral services were conducted at the Bedford Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. C. C. Newsome, the Rev. W. E. Hisle and the Rev. C. P. Phillow officiating. Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Bedford. Acting as casket bearer were William A Pierce, Coleman Sibley, David G. James Stackhouse died at the home of his son, John Stackhouse, Sunday, April 17, of the infirmities of old age. His wife died just two weeks ago, and at the time it was not thought that he could live this long. The funeral services were held at Mt. Tabor church on Monday afternoon by Rev. George Froh and the body interred by the side of his wife who had passed away so recently. He leaves five sons, three living near Worth, the others in Louisville. Deceased was in his eigtieth year. Oldham County Newspaper Abstracts
Dec. 1912 - Gertrude Winburn, 6 years old, was seriously burned last Sunday afternoon when her dress caught fire from the kitchen stove in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Winburn in New Castle. The little girl's screams attracted her mother, who ran into the kitchen and extinguished the flames with a kettle of water which she had placed on the stove a few minutes before to heat. The hair was burned from the little girl's head and she was badly burned about the body.
Dec. 1912 - We are informed that in a few days a check will be handed to Sheriff John E. Ellis for $16,000. which will be the amount of the inheritance tax due the State under the will of the late Diederich Meschendorf. This is the largest amount, so far as we are informed, that has yet been paid as inheritance tax in any one case.
Jan. 1915 - One of the High School girls, Miss Carrie Finley, was painfully burned one morning while waiting for the car at Buckner. A schoolmate struck a match and held near her face to startle her when her hair caught fire and had it not been for Ernest Leet she would have been horribly burned. Having on heavy gloves he slapped the fire out quickly. Miss Carrie came on to school, not realizing that she was really burned but in an hour or two she was suffering so intensely that Dr. Blaydes was called. Her eyeball was badly inflamed and was the most painful, though her cheeks were also burned. She has about recovered.

Oct. 1912 - County Patrolman Shirley, of Harrods Creek, was rewarded Tuesday morning when the pursuit through five counties ended in the recovery of the horse and buggy belonging to Charles Churchman, which was stolen Sunday evening from the churchyard of the Mt. Holly Baptist church, and the apprehension of the horse thief, William Harvey Fahnestalk, alias John Jones.
The prisoner was brought to Louisville and lodged in jail. The horse was in such a fatigued state that it was placed in a livery stable at Milton, Ky. Without food it had been driven seventy-five miles along rather hilly roads in fifty hours.
Mr. Churchman was worshipping at the Mt. Holly Baptist church when the mare and buggy were stolen from the churchyard. He promptly notified the Louisville police department of the theft. County Patrolman Wm. Shirley noticed the horse and buggy being driven along the River road Monday morning, but at the time did not know of the theft. He visited Central station Monday afternoon and while there was told of the theft of the horse and buggy.
The office immediately recognized the description of the stolen animal as that of the one he had seen and started in pursuit. He boarded an interurban car and arrived at LaGrange at six o'clock. Inquiry revealed that the horse and rig had been seen passing by LaGrange......
May 1934 - Tuesday night as Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Snowden were going to their home on Mr. Bruce Duncan's farm at Buckner, their Ford coupe was run into by an Essex car run by Mr. Hall who was trying out the car after making repairs. Mr. Snowden, as the story goes, was running without lights and just before he was hit the lights on the other car went out. The Snowden car was badly wrecked.
May 1934 - The funeral of Annie Josephine Shearer, aged 7 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shearer, was held at the home Friday at 10:30 a.m. Flowers in great profusion and beauty bore mute witness to the love and sympathy of sorrowing friends. The funeral was attended by a large number of friends and relatives. The Rev. J. B. Yager, pastor of the Buckner Christian Church was in charge of the service, assisted by the Rev. J. O. Jones, pastor of Sligo and Eighteeen-Mile Baptist Church. The pallbearer were Thelma Page, Velma Clifford, Mary L. Abbott, Charlotte Morgan, chosen from her school mates as were also the flower bearer who were Cora Page, David Morgan...
Aug. 1917 - The following letter to the Oldham Era from S. W. Anderson, formerly of Westport, this county...Mr. Anderson has served with the Canadian forces at the front in France, where he received wounds which caused him to be sent back to Canada where he was given honorable discharge, with a pension of $15. a month. The letter follows: To the Editor of the Oldham Era: Dear Friends;--If you remember on the 4th day of last August you had a letter from me stating I had joined the Canadian Army. , which I died, and went overseas last October. I landed in London on the 28th of same month. I went to France December 15th and was on the firing line just one month. Was wounded and sent back to Toronto, Canada, in March, 1917. So you can see I made some time. I got my discharge on the 18th day of June, 1917, and on the 4th day of July, last, I got a government job at this place which is a lif-time job and I also get a pension of $15. per month which makes me $1.15 per month. ...I was born in that county...
March 1910 - All the stores in Pewee Valley were closed Tuesday during the funeral of Mr. H. M. Woodruff, who died in Owensboro. Rev. Dr. Peyton H. Hoge conducted the services. Mrs. Woodruff was a member of Pewee Valley Presbyterian church.

Jan. 1914 - While playing fightin a sham battle last Tuesday afternoon, Cliff Olsen, the little son of Mr. Mat Olsen, was accidentaly shot by Bruce Starkey, Jr. with a flobert rifle that he didn't know was loaded. The ball passed through the boys' left arm and into his side, and for a while Drs. Cassady and Blaydes thought serious results would follow, as the ball cannot be located. He was resting well Wednesday and the doctors now look for his speedy recovery.

Aug. 1929 - A party of three returning from a church supper in Anchorage, Kentucky., escaped serious injury at 9:00 o'clock Wednesday night of last week when their automobile was struck by a fast inbound Louisville & Nashville Railroad passenger train on a grade crossing near Anchorage depot. Dr. George Moore, 55 years old, retired physician of Anchorage, was thrown from the automobile and rendered unconscious Two ribs on his left side were believed broken. Mrs. Moore, the physician's wife, suffered a cut on her left cheek. The third occupant, Mrs. Clarence Flanders, also of Anchorage, was cut and bruise....
March 1936 - Mr. J. T. Morgan of Winchester, well known in LaGrange from his long residence here, was operated on last week at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, for a serious trouble. After the work began, it was found that Mr. Morgan was not in as bad condition as was at first thought. All reports tell of improvement. Dr. Samuel Morgan of La Porte, Iind. was present for the operation.

Nov. 1929 - A quiet home wedding was solemnized Friday evening at 9 o'clock at the home of Mrs. P. S. Head, when her daughter, Miss Margaret Bayne Head and Mr. John Strother Gaines were married by the Rev. W. B. Garriott, pastor of the LaGrange Methodist church. Only immediate relatives were present. The bride was becomingly dressed in a brown tweed coat suit. The bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gaines of Westport and is employed he Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company. Immediately after the ceremony the young couple left for a tour of California. Upon their return they will make their home in Louisville.

March 1934 - Friends have received word that Mrs. Mary Woolkfolk Hoffman of Anchorage, and Mr. Lilberne Magruder of Miami, Florida were married in the parlors of a Presbyterian Church in Miami on March 12, in the presence of a few friends. The bride is a daughter of the late R. J. Woolfolk and Louisa Crutchfield Woolfolk of Goshen and is well known in the County for her personal charm and lovely voice. For several eyars she has been a matron at the Presbyterian Orphanage at Anchorage. Her frequent visits to her cousin, Mrs. Julia C. Snowden, made her a welcome adjunt to LaGrange Groups. The bridegroom is of the Magruder family who formerly owned the W. B. Belknap farm at Goshen, a son of the late Warren and Sallie Duerson MaGruder. Mr. Magruder has been in Florida for a number of years and is in the wholesale fruit and vegetable business. They will make their home in Miami.
