August 19, 1932 Otto Curry married Irene Elliott Nelson.  They were married by John M. Madden, a Justic of the Peace, at Jeffersonville, Indiana.  Irene was the daughter of Thomas Hatton Nelson and Fannie Alma Elliott.  During their marital years they lived on Kellar and Curry Drive...an area later demolished by the airport / interstate expansion by the Kentucky Fairgrounds exit.  Irene died at the age of 77 at Norton Hospital in Louisville.  Her funeral was at McDaniel Funeral Home on Park Blvd. and she was laid to rest in a mausoleum beside Otto at Evergreen Cemetery.  She was a loving, peaceful, giving, easy going lady.  She loved genealogy and was always my friend.  She always looked out for me, made sure I had what I needed, took me to church, taught me to wash my hands before I ate, laid down with me until I fell asleep and WOW could she cook!!!    We had great parents but we had great grandparents also!  What a bonus!

I miss the fluffed up feather pillows and mattresses, the talks beside the cedar chest about the family memoirs it contained.  I miss the clean smells, the homemade mustard potato salad and the delicious fried cabbage cooked up in the iron skillet.  I miss the talks of encouragement about taking things one day at a time.  I miss the big stuffed purse full of papers, including the treats we had to dig around for in there...chewing gum, lifesavers, etc..,

Rosetta Curry (circled in photograph) was born 1912 in Hart County, the daughter of Rebecca Ellen Druen and Willis Green Curry.  It was always stressed to us to cut away from ourselves because of what had happened to Rosetta.  She had a knot in her shoe string and was cutting it out with a knife.  She pulled it towards herself in the process and accidentally poked her eye.  She died at the age of 13,  the year was 1925.  We can only assume the death at such a young age was any relation to her eye injury which is visible in this photograph.  The boy in the tie is her brother, Otto.  Photographs were taken at her funeral in Pike View.  Her young school mates were there ... the young girls posed with the flower bouquets.  For a small community there was quite a crowd there.     (Kentucky Scenes link for photograph of Rosetta's funeral at Pike View Cemetery)

When Mema and I used to visit Pike View Cemetery years ago there were trees as there are in the funeral photograph.  The caretakers in more recent years have taken the trees out to protect the cemetery and it's many markers.
